WE BELIEVE

  • God made the world we live in and is Father to those who know His Son, Jesus.
  • We aim to base everything we do or say on the Bible, which we believe to be God's Word. Although our wrong doings have spoilt the world God made and separated us from Him, we believe God has acted through the sacrificial death of His Son, Jesus, to bring people back to Himself through repentance and faith.
  • We believe we can have a personal relationship with Jesus. God raised Jesus from the dead, so .....

JESUS IS ALIVE

  • We want to recognise Jesus as Lord in every area of our lives and through the power of the Holy Spirit, who we receive, serve Him using the gifts which He gives to each one who comes to know Him. While we enjoy the life of God's Kingdom now, we are also expecting Jesus to return in power and glory.

Church History

Looking Back

Built in 1907 the Church was one of many 'Missions' springing up all over Scotland at the time. By 1927 the members of the 'mission' associated themselves with the flourishing 'Brethren' movement, calling themselves “Laighcartside Evangelical Movement”. During the intervening years the Church maintained an evangelical witness through difficult times.

By the early 1980's numbers had depleted although a new spirit of unity had brought a period of blessing. Sadly, due to circumstances, the Church closed as a place of worship in 1997. The building was used for children and youth activities for several years.

In 2001 Bobby & Mairi Sneddon, original members of the Church since 1985, were commended to full time service in Johnstone by Mission Organisation, Gospel Literature Outreach. Their vision was to see the Church “re-born” and used again as a place of worship that would also serve the needs of the community. Soon a core leadership team came together which included committed Christians Graeme & Llinos Burt and G.L.O workers John & Fiona Dick.

With God's direction and blessing the doors of “Dimity St Church” were opened for Sunday Worship on October 5th 2003.

Looking Forward

Over the last few years we have seen many families & young people come and enjoy the new style of worship and we have expanded many areas of ministry an service for the community as more people have been involved.

In Nov 07 we had to move our family service to Thorn primary as the facilities in the current Dimity Street hall were not sufficent to cope with the growth of the church. We still have many of the activities based at DSC, and look to God for guidance as we seek to serve him in the community of Johnstone.
